Pushing Past the Threshold

"Growth and comfort do not coexist." - Ginny Rometty

Lately, I’ve been sitting with discomfort. Change will do that to you. Some changes excite us, filling our hearts with the promise of something more. Others bring uncertainty, stirring up fear and hesitation. And right at the edge—where excitement meets fear—we encounter a threshold.

A threshold is more than just a doorway; it’s a defining moment. It marks the space between where we are and where we want to be. It’s the point at which we must decide: do we step forward into growth, or do we retreat into comfort?

But here’s the truth: thresholds aren’t meant to stop us. They’re invitations—chances to step into something bigger than we ever imagined.

The Battle at the Threshold

We dream big dreams. We set bold intentions. We stand at the starting line, heart pounding with the vision of our pursuit. But then, as it always does, resistance shows up. Energy fades. Doubt creeps in. The comfort of what we’ve known calls us back.

This is the threshold.

It’s the door to the life we say we want—but only if we choose to walk through it.

A Muddy Metaphor for Life

Physical challenges often mirror the emotional and mental ones we face. For me, trail running has become a perfect parallel. Recently, I set out for a 13-mile training run, eager to take on the solitude and beauty of the trail. But as the miles passed, so did my enthusiasm.

Mile 5: A relentless uphill climb burned through my lungs.
Mile 7: Soaked to the bone, the weight of my drenched clothes pulled at me.
Mile 10: Blisters formed on my feet as I slid through the mud.

At each of these moments, I felt the temptation to stop. This was the threshold. The place where I had to decide if I wanted to push through or turn back.

I kept going.

Walking Through the Door

Life, much like that run, is presenting me with new adventures. Dreams I’ve nurtured for years are finally taking shape. The excitement is real—but so are the obstacles.

And yet, I know this pattern. I’ve been here before. Every time I’ve stretched beyond my fears, I’ve discovered my greatest growth.

The threshold exists to ask us: Do you want this enough to push through the resistance?

In my Human Design experiment, I’ve practiced recognizing my body’s energetic response to fear. As a Manifesting Generator with Sacral Authority, I’ve learned to trust my gut when life offers me something. But saying yes to an opportunity doesn’t mean an effortless path forward. The mud will be there. The obstacles will come. But each challenge is a chance to affirm my commitment to the dream itself.

I can either focus on the finish line—the deep satisfaction waiting for me on the other side—or I can retreat into excuses. Either way, the threshold will keep appearing until I choose to walk through it.

So why not today?

Mud-covered, blistered, exhausted—but moving forward. Because the finish line is waiting.
