From Intuition to Flow: Trusting Life’s Current
We often hear about the importance of following our intuition. Be intuitive with your eating. Listen to your gut. Trust your inner knowing. But do we really understand what intuition is? And perhaps more importantly, how long does intuition carry us on our journey toward personal growth and fulfillment?
Intuition is the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. It acts as a guide, helping us step out of the noise of our minds and into a deeper connection with ourselves. When we rely solely on the mind to make decisions, we can become trapped by limiting beliefs, conditioned narratives, and analysis paralysis. Intuition, however, invites us to tune in—to listen to that quiet, divine wisdom within us.
But intuition is just the beginning. It gives us the nudge, the spark, the insight of where to start. From that point forward, the journey becomes about flow.
In the Human Design Experiment, I have learned to practice listening in to my intuition; that inner sacral response that I get as a Manifesting Generator that lets me know if I should respond. This practice has given me such great insight as to what is meant for me to respond to. However, after responding, I am still tasked with more. In order to stay out of my “over-thinking, people-pleasing” mind, I need to stay present to what is keeping me in flow. I need to allow my energy to stay open and not become constricted.
Flow is what happens when we surrender to the path that intuition has revealed. It’s the current that carries us forward, guiding us through the natural progression of life. Picture a waterfall that begins as a small stream, gathering momentum as it flows into a river, eventually reaching the vastness of the ocean—an expanse of possibility beyond what we can imagine. But we can’t get there without surrendering to the river’s flow. Day by day, we must allow life to take us from the place intuition first led us to the finish line that awaits.
Recently, during a breathwork session, I had a powerful vision of a river with the most lush green grass and trees lining its banks. The image captivated me, reminding me of how my own journey of being in flow brings so much life as a result. The vibrant landscape along the water’s edge thrives because of the life force the river provides—the steady current nourishing everything in its path. This vision reinforced the idea that when we stay in flow, trusting the journey rather than resisting it, we allow life’s abundance to flourish around us.
Sometimes, life rushes at us like a waterfall—powerful, overwhelming, and exhilarating all at once. We may feel swept up in opportunities that propel us forward, yet we might also feel the weight of responsibilities and tasks bearing down on us. In these moments, we have a choice: we can resist the current, fearing its intensity, or we can surrender to its beauty, trusting that the rapids will eventually give way to calmer waters.
Other times, we find ourselves stuck in the rocks along the river’s edge. Life slows us down, and our momentum stalls. Challenges arise, and we hesitate, unsure of how to move forward. But just as a river never stops flowing, neither should we. Our job is to recognize when we’ve become stagnant and find our way back into the current, letting go of the shallow distractions that keep us from moving forward.
Each phase of the journey teaches us something valuable. Every stretch of the river, every rapid, and every moment of stillness offers us an opportunity to trust, to surrender, and to embrace the unfolding of life. When we try to control the course, fighting against the current, we only exhaust ourselves or find ourselves stranded on the sidelines—watching as life and our dreams pass us by.
Intuition gets us started, but it does not carry us. It’s what allows us to take that first step into the water. After that, it’s up to us to stay in flow—to trust the river and let it lead us to the vastness of life that is waiting.
So how do we know whether we are in flow or resisting it? Pay attention to what is blocking you.
What obstacles keep appearing?
How are you responding to life’s rapids?
Who is supporting your journey?
Are the people in your life encouraging you to stay open, or are they calling you back to the shore?
By staying aware, staying present, and trusting the journey, we can move beyond simply following our intuition—we can fully embrace the flow of life, allowing it to carry us to places more extraordinary than we ever imagined.
